In these United States, a man is 1000% innocent until his face appears in the media.

Roger Clemens, Mister Cy Young Awards recipient, with the all-time record of seven Cy Young Awards, when he was a player he was the premier Major League Baseball pitcher. He had a 24-year career. He was known as a fierce competitor with a blazing fastball, now after yesterday, following a six count indictment for lying to Congress on super-manning himself up, with illegal performance-enhancing drugs, the dude has gone from being Roger the great, the former Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jay, Houston Astro, New York Yankee dude, to Roger the pox, another ex-Bronx bum. The steroids scandal has shattered the statue of another one.

The fact that?? Roger Clemens, who has lawyered up, may find a way through this is besides the point.

As of today, he still says he is innocent and the witnesses against him are either lying or mistaken. “I never took HGH (human growth hormone) or steroids. And I never lied to Congress,’’ Mr. Clemens said on Twitter. “I look forward to challenging the government’s accusations, and hope people will keep an open mind until trial. I appreciate all the support I have been getting. I am happy to finally have my day in court."

His face is in the news and as of today he is cooked.

But, then there's the press statement of Ronald C. Machen Jr., US attorney for the District of Columbia,.who will be prosecuting the case, “Our government cannot function if witnesses are not held accountable for false statements made before Congress. If a witness ignores his or her responsibility to testify honestly, there will be consequences.’’

The charge is lying to Congress, an institution of liars. How can anyone keep a straight face and charge, indict and try to convict anyone, who has allegedly lied before America's premier liars' club?

Seriously! John 'I never said I was a Maverick' McCain lies all the time. In the Senate, the Party of No is full of liars, stretchers of the truth, tellers of outright falsehoods. All one has to do is to go down the list the of names of the GOP leaders. There's isn't a straight talker in the bunch. Check out the GOP in the House, same problem. Never has a bunch of truth challenged lawmakers gathered in one place. I suspect that one won't have to look too hard to find one or two integrity deprived persons on the Democratic side of the aisle too. In the name of justice, fairness, equal protection, how can anyone be indicted for lying to Congress when Congress is a major league club of liars, with premier liars who lie all the time?

Well, life in America isn't about justice. The best anyone can hope for is that America will continue to strive for justice, fairness, equal protection for all her people.
