Today, (3/11/10), we note the passing of Merlin Olsen, (1940- 2010). His brother Orrin, announced Merlin Olsen's death to the press. In a statement, he said that his brother had been treated for mesothelioma, a form of lung cancer, (The New York Times). Merlin Olsen was 69. He was an outstanding National Football League (NFL) player, one of the best linemen who ever played the game. He played his entire 15-year career with the Los Angeles Rams and was elected to the Pro Bowl in 14 of those seasons. He is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame. He was a longtime pro football color commentator for NBC sports. He was also a popular TV actor. He was a featured player in the series “Little House on the Prairie," and the star of the series "Father Murphy." .
